The kind folks at www.ComicGeekSpeak.com interviewed me yesterday regarding my comic The Damned, horror fiction, and gross-out stories. I’ll admit I sweated over every word during the interview, and while I won’t tune in myself (because I can’t stand to hear myself), I invite all of you to head on over to Episode 173 and give it a listen. Marvel as I forget all of the magazines in which I’ve ever been published! Listen in awe as I mix up Shirley Jackson’s masterpiece The Haunting of Hill House with the Vincent Price movie The House on Haunted Hill! Pelt me with virtual tomatoes!

Who doesn’t like a good brawl between superheroes and supervillains? And, much like a classic Kung-Fu movie, comic battles only get better when a group of good guys square off against one uber-powerful bad guy. I’m thinking Micronauts versus Baron Karza, the Justice League versus Darkseid, the X-Men versus Magneto. Not long ago, the long-standing DC laughing stock Dr. Light gave the Teen Titans (all of them!) a few bruises to remember him by, and that battle is the subject of this week’s POW! Moments.

One of the questions I’m asked the most about The Damned is if it will be a limited or ongoing series. The simplest answer … it depends on the readers. If the book performs well, there’s a good chance it will continue beyond its original 5-issue arc. I have high hopes, and I’m already hard at work plotting the second arc. I could write stories set in this world for a loooooong time (although I do envision a definite ending to the saga). Here’s hoping you’re right there with me as the story unfolds!

Want a taste of what it’s like to be one of The Damned? A PDF preview of the first 23 pages of issue 1 is now available. Don’t worry, since the first issue is a whopping 40 pages, there will still be plenty of thrills and chills waiting for you on October 18th! The PDF may take a few minutes to load, so be patient when you click here.

In this week’s POW! Moments, I cast my mind back to days of yard sales, flea markets, and one of the coolest limited series to ever see print–DC’s Camelot 3000. What happens when King Arthur, Merlin, and the Knights of the Round Table are re-awakened in a future world under attack by aliens? A whole mess of E.T. head-bashing, that’s what.

The exclusive 6-page preview of The Damned has been posted on the Oni Press website. Think of this as a teaser and prelude to the first issue. While this preview will be featured in a few of Oni’s other titles (starting with the second issue of Wasteland), it will not appear in The Damned.

Another day, another POW! Moments column. This time around, I focus on Marvel’s Power Pack and the relentless fun that was made of me for reading it. Enjoy!

Have you signed up for my e-newsletter yet? If not, now’s the time. The newsletter will feature news and updates on my writing projects, in particular The Damned. I plan on sending the newsletter out once a month, so you won’t be flooded with messages … and each month I’ll draw a name at random from the subscriber list to receive some cool prizes. At the end of August, one lucky subscriber will be receiving a piece of original artwork by the artist of The Damned, Brian Hurtt. Don’t miss your chance! Sign-up only takes a couple of seconds.

I’ve returned from Wizard World Chicago. I had a great time, and despite doing absolutely nothing today, I’m still exhausted. I was happy to see so many people who were interested in The Damned, and I only wish the release date of October 18th was already here. To those of you who asked about the book, I think you’ll find it worth the wait.
It was awesome to see so many great people, and the convetion flew by. I was lucky enough to spend time with Brian Hurtt, Chris Samnee, Mike Oliveri, Matt Kindt, Steve Bryant (of Athena Voltaire), David Wachter of Scar Tissue, the Comic Geek Speak crew, and the very cool folks from Around Comics, among many others. Thanks to all of you for making the convention worthwhile!
Here’s a link to a few pictures from the show! Enjoy!

The kind folks at Around Comics have put together a great PDF floor map of the Wizard World Chicago exhibit hall. The map will tell you exactly where to find all the cool kids, such as Brian Hurtt and myself. Check it out here.
