Ah, there’s nothing like sitting down with a new copy of Previews to pick out all the new books, comics, magazines, DVDs, and chachkas that I’d love to get my mitts on. Reminds me of reading the JC Penney toy catalog as a kid. There is a lot of cool stuff coming out in April, but a few stand-out items really caught my eye.
Pigeons from Hell #1 (Dark Horse) - My favorite Robert E. Howard story has been adapted to comics before, but in this case Joe R. Lansdale is penning the script and putting his own spin on the classic yarn. Judging from some sample pages I’ve seen, it’s gonna be quite a change from the source material, but I’m still excited about it.
Creepy Archives (Dark Horse) – Over 200 pages of reprinted material from one of the coolest horror magazines around. This hardback edition collects the first five issues of the magazine’s run. I can see the future of my bookcases right now. Here’s hoping Eerie gets similar treatment.
Titans #1 (DC) – Once a Teen Titans fan, always a Teen Titans fan. Looks like the original team is coming back together. That’s enough to get me reading, at least for a few issues.
Showcase Presents: The Haunted Tank Vol. 2 (DC) – I love weird war stories. Some would argue that The Unkown Soldier or The War That Time Forgot are better, but The Haunted Tank stories from G. I. Combat were always my favorites.
Daredevil: Blood of the Tarantula (Marvel) - Hey, it’s my talented pal, Chris Samnee, drawing the man with no fear. That’s gotta rawk!
Cladestine #3 (Marvel) – In the 90s, there were only a few bright spots on the comic landscape. The short-lived Clandestine was one of those great comics that didn’t make it back then. But it’s back again, and just as awesome as I remember.
Secret Invasion #1 (Marvel) – So, sue me. The hype machine over this event has sucked me in. I gotta know who’s a skrull!
The Mist (DVD) – The best big budget horror movie I’ve seen in a long time is coming out on DVD … so I can watch it again and again on foggy nights.
And, of course, The Damned: Prodigal Sons #2 hits the shelves in April, too. But I’ll post some more about that later.
