Here are the covers (and a few notes) on another three issues of Whispers from the Shattered Forum.

Whispers from the Shattered Fourm #4
Brian Hurtt once again provided the artwork for the fourth issue of the magazine. I was still having trouble figuring out how to work with the art, and the final product didn’t do the images justice. Also, this issue came back from the printer with a problem with the trimming, resulting in odd, mishapen issues. Despite this, the fourth issue, our Lovecraftian tribute, sold out and was reprinted twice (this was the only issue besides the first that was reprinted). Stories by Thomas Canfield, Jon hodges, Joe Pulver, Harrison Howe, J. J. Travis, D, F. Lewis, and Chad Hensley. Poetry by Ann K. Schwader and Chad Hensley. Continue Reading

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost ten years since I decided to try my hand at becoming a small press publisher. In late 1999, though, Undaunted Press was born, and the first title released under the imprint was Whispers from the Shattered Fourm. I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved that little horror magazine. The zine lasted for thirteen issues and it was accompanied by a sister publication (the fantasy magazine Glyph) and a whole bunch of horror and fantasy chapbooks.
I thought it might be interesting to post the covers to all of the Undaunted Press publications over the next few weeks. Since I’ve gone through a number of clunky computers since I released the first magazine (and, in the process, lost all of the electronic files) I’m scanning my archive editions. We’ll start with the first three issues of the flagship publication.
I no longer have these books for sale, but you can sometimes find them on EBay or elsewhere around the web.

Whispers from the Shattered Forum #1
The first issue (and many of the subsequent issues) was illustrated by Brian Hurtt, way back before he was anybody. This is because I could con Brian into illustrating the books for free (in much the same way that I conned him on working on The Damned with me). I absolutely love that cover, and I still have the original artwork. Maybe I should get that framed. Fiction in this issue came from the likes of Ray Wallace, Mark McLaughlin, Scott Kaufman, Franklin Spears, Jeff Wilson, Jack Fisher, and Shawn James. Poetry was by Michelle Scalise, Robert DeVoe, and Lida Broadhurst.
I also wrote a little poem (more as a joke than anything) titled “Little Bunny Cthulhu” that appeared on the back cover. The title critter would go on to become the mascot of Undaunted Press.
