Even More 6th Gun

Category : 6th Gun, Comics

Here we have more concept art from THE 6TH GUN.  The idea for this book has been running through my head for a long while, and it has gone through a number of changes.  Last year, Brian worked up several beautiful pieces of art to convey the dark fantasy/high adventure feel of the series. The end result may be a little different than what we have here, but you’ll have to wait and see.

More to come.

Last week in San Diego, Oni Press announced a new full color mini-series that I’m writing and Brian Hurtt is illustrating. The 6th Gun is an epic dark fantasy set in the Old West.

During the darkest days of the Civil War, a band of cutthroats came into possession of six pistols of terrible power. Now, one of the weapons is missing, and the agents of darkness will stop at nothing to get it back.

The book will debut in the spring, but keep your eyes peeled for sneak peeks and teasers along the way.

San Diego Comic Con 2009

Category : Events & Appearances

If you’re heading to Comic Con next week, I hope you’ll flag me down and say hello. Your best bets for finding me are:

A) Scanning the massive crowd for the guy with the dashingly-handsome-might-be-a-movie-star-but-could-also-be-a-comics-writer good looks.  That’s me.  Tug on my sleeve and say hi.

B)Stopping by one of my panels or signings.  This might be the best bet, so here’s my schedule.  Hope to see you there!

Thursday

10:00 – 11:20 – Signing with Brian Hurtt at the Oni Press booth.

3:00 – 4:00 – Oni Press Panelmonium 2009.  Brian and I will be sitting on the panel.  I wonder what fascinating things we’ll be discussing?

Friday

11:30 – 12:50 – Signing with Brian Hurtt at the Oni Press booth.

Saturday

10:00 – 11:20 - Signing with Brian Hurtt at the Oni Press booth.

Sunday

Things I Didn’t Know (7-10-2009)

Category : Things I Didn't Know

It’s important to personal development to strive to learn something every day.  Here are a few of the things I know this week that I didn’t know last week.

  • That rolly thing mechanics lie on to get under your car (and action stars in John Woo movies like to roll around on while shooting bad guys) is called a “creeper.”
  • The action book series, The Destroyer, which I loved but eventually gave up on reading, capped out at 149 books in the series.  Looks like I gave up on it just 45 books too early. Maybe I’ll track the rest of them down.
  • The “zip” in zip code stands for Zone Improvement Plan.  I always thought it meant that if you used it, your mail would get where it was going more quickly.
  • Vocabulary test time! ”Portmanteau” is used to describe the blending of two or more words, like “frenemy,” which means “an enemy disguised as a friend” and has been recently added to the dictionary.  Reminds me of this time Brian Hurtt came up to me wearing a newsboy hat and pretending to be Chris Samnee.  I’m not sure, but I think he was trying to steal Freakhunter (a portmanteau?) secrets.  When I caught on to his clever ruse, I karatekickchopped (another portmanteau of my own creation) him into the following week.
  • Slurpee, 7-Eleven’s delightful frozen beverage, is known to cause brain freeze.  The scientific name for this mind-numbing event is Sphenopalatine Ganglioneuralgia.  Winnipeg is generally thought to be the Slurpee capital of the world, because they love the stuff.  Every day more than 11.6 million Slurpee drinks are consumed around the world.  Today is Slurpee Day, by the way.  Also, once upon a time 7-Eleven was the only place I could go to keep track of the latest comic books.  I miss the days of comic books, Slurpees, and Slim Jims.
