It’s been one year since the first reported case of the Empty Man disease, and no drug has been able to slow its progress. The cause is unknown, and the symptoms include fits of rage, hideous hallucinations, suicidal dementia, followed by death, or a near lifeless, “empty” state of catatonia. As murder cults rise nationwide, the FBI and CDC enter a joint investigation of the Empty Man, hoping to piece together clues to stop the cult and uncover a cure. Collects the complete miniseries, issues #1-6.

The idea for THE EMPTY MAN came to me while I was on a road trip. Long drives often put me in the “idea zone” (THE TOOTH and HELHEIM came to me on similar trips). I drove down a stretch of highway lined with an old, tangled barbwire fence. Every so often, I’d see a piece of tattered plastic sheeting that must have blown off the back of a truck. The sheets clung to the barbwire, and they flapped in the wind like strange phantoms. For some reason, the phrase “The Empty Man made me do it” popped into my head, and I couldn’t shake it. Now, several years later, I finally get to tell the story that sprung up from that weird phrase.

“An awesome introductory issue, THE EMPTY MAN #1 has a lot of potential going for it with the story’s mix of cults, serial killers, and police procedural.”

 Bloody Disgusting

“It’s an inventive horror story that makes great use of world-building writing and rough, noir-ish artwork to give a look at a world just close enough to ours that it is truly terrifying.”

– Multiversity Comics

“THE EMPTY MAN reads like a late 1970s, early ‘80s word-of-mouth artifact of found horror, a castoff paperback or something a seventh-grader brags about having seen on VHS while visiting a distant relation.”

– Comics Bulletin

“This is a great book, with the promise of more greatness to come.”
