Brides of Helheim Second Printing

Following in the bloody footsteps of its predecessor, 2013’s brutally successful hit Helheim, the demand for Cullen Bunn, Joëlle Jones, and Nick Filardi’s BRIDES OF HELHEIM #1 has exhausted Diamond’s supplies, triggering an immediate reprint.

While there’s already much cause for celebration, Oni Press has decided to sweeten the mead even further by giving the second printing a variant cover by the acclaimed Shawn Crystal (Arkham Manor, Fantomex MAX) with colors by Dave McCaig!

The second printing variant will hit stores November 12, the same day as BRIDES OF HELHEIM #2, with a final order cutoff date of October 20 and the Diamond order code SEP141514. It is available to order NOW!helheim1 second print

Brides of Helheim Pre-Order Form!

helheimorderformBI think we can all agree that pre-ordering comic books is important, right? Let’s face it—your local shop is awesome, but can’t be expected to order every single title that comes out each month. Comic book orders are due roughly two months before the release date, and a retailer has to choose stock very carefully. Many times, this means ordering only “safe bet” comic books, and many great titles slip through the cracks. Pre-order, though, and you let your comic book retailer know that there’s interest in an upcoming book.

This is good for you, because you can make sure you don’t miss out on the stuff you want to read.

It’s good for the retailer, because a pre-order means the sale is a “sure thing.”

It’s good for other readers. When a pre-order comes in, stores will often order additional copies for the shelf. This gives new readers the opportunity to check out a book they might not have normally heard about.

It’s good for publishers and creators, because when people order the books, we can keep telling great stories.

While I think pre-ordering is  especially important for creator-owned titles, this goes for pretty much any comic book. Please don’t assume that your shop will carry a particular title!

To pre-order, all you have to do is head to your local comic book shop (if you don’t know where that is, you can visit this link to search them out!) and let them know what books you’re after.

To make it even easier for you, we’ve created this BRIDES OF HELHEIM pre-order form. Print it out, fill in some information, drop it off at your shop, and they’ll make sure you get your books!

What is BRIDES OF HELHEIM, you ask? It’s the story of undead Vikings, black magic, sea monsters, demons, sex, and violence. It’s a Viking-era Frankenstein tale, if the Frankenstein monster tussled with witches and demon-bears and monsters in addition to his own self-loathing. It’s illustrated by Joelle Jones, colored by Nick Filardi, and written by Cullen Bunn. The first issue comes out in October, so you need to order by September 8.

For more information on the series, you can give this a read. If you haven’t read the first series (which isn’t necessary to read BRIDES OF HELHEIM but you’ll love it anyhow) you can pick up or order the trade paperback collection when you drop off your order form.

Thanks, folks!

Happy pre-ordering

Raising Two Kinds of Hel(l)

Oni Press has announced several new projects for 2014, including a couple of new books from me!

First up, we’ve got the return of Rikard, Kadlin, Bera, and Groa in BRIDES OF HELHEIM!

Coming October 2014

Cullen Bunn, Joëlle Jones, and Nick Filardi return to their smash hit Viking horror/fantasy series Helheim! Alone in the wilderness and living in seclusion, the Viking warrior Rikard is confronted once again by black magic and arcane monstrosities. But this time, Rikard seeks vengeance against the warlock who was once master to the witches who wove our undying hero’s bloody fate.

Also in October–HELLBREAK, a new ongoing series, will debut!

Not black ops. The blackest of ops. A group of elite soldiers has been recruited by the shadowy Kerberos Corporation for a series of special missions—breaking souls out of Hell and returning them to their bodies… and replacing the evil demons possessing their mortal shells here on Earth.

A gothic, action-packed vision of Hell in a new ongoing series that evokes Inception and Aliens by way of John Carpenter from the creative forces of writer Cullen Bunn, artist Brian Churilla, and colorist Jordie Bellaire!

Script: Helheim #1

helheim1It’s about time I shared another of my scripts, don’t ya think?

Presented here is the entire script for the first issue. I haven’t changed a thing since I first sent it off, so you’ll see all the errors and typos in their ugly glory. It might be interesting for you to compare this script to the script for The Sixth Gun, which I posted some time ago.

If you haven’t read Helheim, now’s the time! You can purchase issues on ComiXology right now. Read the first issue to compare the art to the script, then read all the rest because, y’know, they’re awesome.

Here’s the script!

Helheim 1 (.doc format)

I hope this is helpful! If you’re an artist interested in putting together sample pages based on this script, I’d love to see what you do! If you’re a writer, please let me know if this proved useful for you! For more about my process, check out the “plot to script” post i did a few weeks back!
