ISSUE 232: AN UPDATE FROM THE FIELD

So… how is Scriptpocalypse going?

Last week, I wrote 125 pages of comic script as well as several first draft chapters of my novel. I also edited a couple of proof comics, did a couple of lettering passes, took a phone meeting or two, hosted this month’s Whiskey and Words event, dealt with a house appraisal, and went to a heavy metal show.

Do you hear the weariness my words?

Among the comics I wrote were GATCHAMAN, the final issue of PROJECT: ARCANE, the first issue of the new THE SIXTH GUN series, and the first issue of a new series for Marvel I’m calling PROJECT: LAST.

All in all, it was a pretty successful writing extravaganza. It was so successful that I’m gonna do it again this week. That’s right! Scriptpocalypse continues! I’d like to get at least as many comic script pages written this week. I also want to write a couple of short film scripts that have been knocking around in my head. AND I want to finish the first draft of my novel. Completing that first draft will feel really good. Then, I can put it away for a week or two before I take it back to Page 1 and re-write the whole thing to make it much, much better.

So… here we go again.

I mentioned that I went to a heavy metal show this week. The band was Transylvania, a great local group. Among their set, they debuted their song JUMPSCARE, based on the upcoming comic from Danny Luckert and myself. Talk about a big ol’ thrill. My plan (because I love to make plans to do things I have no business doing) is to create a music video for the song. That will mean doing a studio recording, getting local filmmakers involved, and finding some cosplay experts to help me bring it all to life. I’m going to get the ball rolling on all of that this week, too!

But wait! That’s not all!

The pre-launch page for THE FARAWAY #2 continues… and the campaign will launch officially in a few days. You can follow the page to make sure you don’t miss out on the campaign when it launches. If you happened to miss the campaign for the first issue, you’re in luck! We will be offering issue 1 along with issue 2 this time around. And… just for you… here’s a look at the Kickstarter Exclusive variant cover for issue 2! This is without trade dress at the moment, but you get the idea.

Hold your horses! The week’s barely started and I’m not done yet!

The last few weeks, my son has been helping me with inventory. The studio is COVERED in stacks of comics, piles of trade paperbacks, dozens and dozens of comic book boxes, and precarious towers of bags and boards.

Over the next few days, I’m going to be re-igniting my online store, adding some really cool offerings to the site.

I’m nothing if not mad—mad, I tell you!

Now, I’m goign to get up and take a walk. Who knows if I will see the light of day again this week.

Thanks for spending a little time with me! I’ll see you next week!

VENOM: SPACE KNIGHT EPIC COLLECTION

In this groundbreaking era, the Venom symbiote and its new host Flash Thompson head from the streets to the stars as a defender of the cosmos!

Flash Thompson, Agent of the Cosmos! If Venom and his new symbiotic sidekick, Mania, survive a war to save Philly from underworld boss Lord Ogre, Flash will have to confront his past as a bully and make a momentous decision about his future! Taking on a new mission as a Space Knight, Venom swashbuckles his way across the universe, helping the helpless and punishing the violent — until he's made to fight in an alien arena! Flash faces one surprising enemy when his symbiotic relationship with his Klyntar becomes one of hunter and prey — and then another as he returns to Earth just in time for CIVIL WAR II and a showdown with one of his oldest friends! Get ready for Venom vs. Spider-Man like you’ve never seen it before!

The last few issues of my VENOM run are collected in this collection, along with a huge chunk of Venom’s outer space adventures written by Robbie Thompson.

Despite Scriptpocalypse, I did find time to re-watch HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY, which I watched mainly for Prince Nuada, a villain I really dig. My son and I watched ALIEN in preparation for this week’s ALIEN: ROMULUS. I caught a couple of episodes of OUTER BANKS and a couple of episodes of the new BIG BROTHER. Not sure I’m gonna stick with BB this time around, though.

I’ve been reading WHALEFALL by Daniel Kraus as well as re-reading my BPRD collections.
