ISSUE 208: THE RETURN OF THE BUNNGALOW

Once again, I woke up this morning not realizing what day of the week it was. Between all the snow days and musical events and work, I’m completely turned around. So, I woke up with the startling realization that I had not put this week’s issue of NIGHTMARE FUEL together! I usually write a lot of the content early on the morning of publication, but I also usually have some of the framework put together already. Not this time, and I hope you can feel the panic rolling off my fingertips.

So, let’s get to it.

Here’s some super-exciting news! At least for me and Cindy, this is exciting! The Bunngalow is back, baby!

If you’ve missed Cindy I talking about nonsense galore for 45 minutes, well, you’re in luck! Because we’ve been recording new episodes and we’ve finally decided to release them! The first episode of Season Three is posted… with almost no editing because I don’t know how to do that… on a new platform (Spotify). We’re going to figure out how to get it posted on several other podcast platforms, but  we just didn’t have any more time this week.

We’re gonna try to post once every couple of weeks!

Enjoy!

Busy, busy weeks, my friends.

I finished another couple of comic book scripts this week, one for GATCHAMAN and one for an unannounced book. I also finished up the short stories for the special prelude issues that will be coming out as part of the Kickstarter for THE SIXTH GUN.

I recorded some more video content and worked on the Bunngalow.

I did a bit of work for Tremendicon, which will be here before you know it.

I took several phone calls and Zoom meetings.

I pitched a TV show.

I was offered a new comic limited series and I worked on an outline for what I’d do with that.

I did lettering passes aplenty and edited some scripts.

And I worked a ton on I’LL KILL YOU LAST, the next publication from my Outer Shadows imprint.

I’m still trying to figure out the fall-out of moving away from Substack. I had another newsletter there, WHISPERS FROM THE OUTER SHADOWS, where I published the short fiction of other writers, some columns, and news about the imprint. I think my plan is to move that content into this newsletter. So, once every month or so, there will be a column or two and some short fiction from myself and others. That seems to be the most simple way to handle the switch.

This week is gonna be tough. I have three travel days coming up for music events. That’s gonna cut into much-needed writing time in a big way. But I wouldn’t miss these kind of events for the world. My kid puts so much into his music, and I’ll support him til the world stops spinning. There is going to be a lot of waiting and downtime during these events… and there’s a coffee shop… and a bar… on the premises… so I’ll get some work done, I bet.

When I get home, I need to figure out what book stock I have for ArtCon, which is coming up very quickly. That means heading into the deep freeze to sort through comics and graphic novels.

Where are the robotic helpers every sci-fi movie of the 70s promised me?

Have you had the chance to check out COPYCAT yet? We only have a couple of weeks before the campaign closes, so now is a great time.

What’s COPYCAT all about, you ask?

Sarah, a talented ER nurse, has the unique ability to diagnose her patients with just one touch. Unfortunately, her power comes at a painful cost, as she suffers the same agony as those she cares for. When a mysterious woman named Emma dies in her arms, Sarah inadvertently leaches Emma’s extraordinary superhuman ability to fight. Sarah is then hunted by Emma’s killers, forced to leach more and more powers from an onslaught of superhuman assassins to stay alive. With any luck, she’ll survive long enough to solve Emma’s murder, and bring them all down.

The campaign for COPYCAT ends in...

Week Three of horror trivia is upon us! This time around, we’re focused on the blood-sucking undead—vampires!

I hope folks are enjoying these little trivia videos. I’ve had a good time making them. I have a few more in the mix, with such topics as werewolves and Godzilla! In the near future, I’ll release the next stage of my devious trivia plan, and the pillars of the Earth will tremble.

Banner-flashback

A real old one. There’s my mom and my old man circa 1973? Back in those days, he was setting up at fairs and CB jamborees and such to promote his hypnotism performances. I’m pretty sure I’m behind the curtain.

Banner - weekly obsessions

Four TV shows have held my interest this week.

AGT FANTASY LEAGUE … I think I might have mentioned this one before. The show cheers me up. What do you want from me?

NEO ULTRA Q … This is a show from a couple of years ago, a proposed sequel to the 1960s show ULTRA Q. Sitting down to watch it, I thought maybe it was “X-Files in the world of Ultraman” but as the show unfolds I think it is more “The Twilight Zone in the world of Ultraman” and that may not be right. Anyhow, super strange, super fun episodes.

REACHER … season 2 of this show has been a lot of fun for me. I don’t know if I like it as much as the first season, but maybe. This season, Reacher’s hanging out with his friends, going on adventures, getting into trouble, and I’m digging it.

TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY … Now this—THIS!—is what I’ve been wanting from a TRUE DETECTIVE season since the first season ended. The first episode dropped. Go watch it. I will say no more.
