ISSUE 239: THE TRIPLE THREAT AWAKENS

I can’t shake this feeling that I’m somehow failing Halloween this year.

I’ve done quite a bit, I suppose. A horror convention, a handful of horror movies (some old, some new). Several haunted houses. Angry balls and pumpkin old fashioneds. Horror trivia. A new Mrs. Friedly story. Tonight, I’ll be watching NOSFERATU while an orchestra (of which my son is a member) plays the score. Later in the week, there will be more trivia, more haunted houses, and a trip to another convention.

Still, I feel October slipping away, and the house isn’t decorated. I haven’t set up our haunted garage (and I don’t think I’m going to this year). I haven’t even done a test pot of chili! I’m just going in untested for Halloween night! Like a lunatic!

My favorite time of year will be gone before I know it, especially with how busy I’m gonna be, work-wise. I’m finishing up some self-inflicted re-writes on my novel, launching a Kickstarter, waiting impatiently for some exciting new contracts, working on some new Outland Entertainment excitement, attending a convention, AND launching a Kickstarter.

I guess what I’m saying is… I’ve gotta step it up a bit.

I’ve gotta stop and smell the pumpkins before they’re gone.

Before the spookiest of seasons is over, though, I’ll be launching a new crowdfunding campaign for Cullen Bunn’s Triple Threat of Terror. The Triple Threat will feature three new one-shot horror comics—DEATH DUEL WITH THE CHAINSAW WITCHES, LONG PIG & AZRAEL, and THE WINDOW.

I’ve had these books in the works for a long while now, and they are all finally ready to be printed and enjoyed. Each story was initially inspired by my love of the Empire and Full Moon horror movies of my youth. I think, though, that the stories grew beyond their humble beginnings. I’m really proud of them and ready for folks to enjoy the Hell out of them!

The campaign is moving quickly. I plan to launch later this week. There are a lot of reasons for this, but most importantly, I’d like the world to see the awesome work artists Diogo Carvalho, Luay Garwan, and Eman Casallos did on these books.

As with every Kickstarter campaign, I learn something new every time out of the gate. For this one, I really wanted to put together a video. Having no talent for such things, I put the following together. I hope you dig it!

Your support on this campaign is much appreciated. You can follow the campaign page so that you won’t miss a beat come the launch later this week!

I joined Coliseum of Comics to discuss THE HEXILES, which comes out next week from Mad Cave, and horror in general. It was a fun chat, even though I forgot it was gonna happen until one minute before we were supposed to get started. You’ll notice my ratty writing sweater making a guest appearance!

This weekend, I’ll be heading to Fort Worth for Cowtown Comic Con! Last year, thanks to circumstances beyond my control, I had to miss the event. I’m thrilled that I’ll be there this year! If you’re in the area, come say hello!

INVASIVE TPB

Beyond excess, beyond ethics, beyond science. . . . Enter a terrifying new experiment in pain from Eisner Award nominee Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun, Basilisk), 2023 Reuben Award Finalist illustrator Jesús Hervás (The Empty Man,) and Federico Sabbatini (Moon Knight)! Dr. Carrie Reynolds was a veteran trauma surgeon with a godlike mastery of muscle and bone. But when her daughter—a recovering plastic surgery addict—suddenly disappears and reemerges in a catatonic state, her vocal cords removed, Carrie learns she’s just the latest in a series of victims scarred by a battery of brazenly cruel medical procedures that have baffled police and left an alarming number of once-ordinary citizens maimed, mutilated, or dead on arrival. She teams with disgraced detective Vic Hudgens in her descent into the dark truth, and madness, of the attacks. Collecting Invasive #1-4.

GATCHAMAN #4

Jun the Swan's disguise has been cast aside. Now, she is hunted and alone in an enemy base... and the corridors crawl with treacherous Devil Star operatives. With the odds stacked against her, is she able to rescue the hostages and escape? Elsewhere, both the Ninja Team and the Beta Team have their own conflicts to surmount. Another exciting issue that expands upon the original anime series!

Banner - things to come

My pal Tim made a pumpkin old fashioned for October. If anything in the last week qualifies as an obsession, it’s that delicious cocktail.
